Orchard is a place to learn, build, and disagree well. This code applies to everyone in every Orchard space: the forum, GitHub issues and pull requests, Discord, and any event run under the Orchard name. It is short on purpose, and it is enforced.
Our standard
Treat other people the way you would want to be treated when you are new, tired, or stuck. Concretely, we expect you to:
- Be respectful, especially when you disagree. Argue the idea, not the person.
- Assume good faith. Most confusion is a misunderstanding, not an attack.
- Be patient with beginners. Everyone started somewhere, and short answers that teach beat clever ones that do not.
- Give and accept feedback gracefully. A review is about the work, not your worth.
- Keep discussion on topic and in the open, so others can learn from it later.
What is not acceptable
- Harassment of any kind, including unwelcome attention, slurs, or demeaning comments about who someone is.
- Personal attacks, insults, or sustained hostility.
- Posting other people’s private information without their clear permission.
- Sexual language or imagery, and unwanted sexual attention.
- Spam, repeated off-topic promotion, or deliberately derailing a thread.
- Encouraging any of the above, in public or in private.
Scope
This code applies in all community spaces, and it also applies when you are representing the community in public, for example posting from an official account or speaking at an event as an Orchard maintainer.
Reporting a problem
If you see or experience behavior that breaks this code, report it to the maintainers at conduct@orchard.dev. Reports are read by a small group and kept confidential. Tell us what happened, where, and when, and include links or screenshots if you have them. You will not be penalized for reporting in good faith, even if the outcome is that nothing happened.
How it is handled
Maintainers are responsible for enforcing this code. We will review every report, respond as quickly as we reasonably can, and act in a way that fits what happened. Depending on the situation that can mean a private warning, removing a post, a temporary suspension, or a permanent ban from Orchard spaces. We will respect the privacy and safety of whoever reported the problem.

This code draws on the ideas in the Contributor Covenant and other open source codes of conduct, written in our own words. If you are setting up a community of your own, those are good places to start.
